Between 2013 and 2016, Design Innovation Group facilitated sessions in 26 cultural institutions (museums, libraries, festivals and musicians). In a series of these tailor-made sessions, DIG made sure the participants understood the Business Model Canvas and the Value Proposition Canvas (Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pineur) and were able to deal with their strategic questions while working with both canvasses (and other design instruments).
Both canvasses combine creative strategic thinking with a design approach that puts users at the centre of delivery mechanisms. The participants were stimulated to think about the actual value they delivered to their target group. In addition to this, they were stimulated to think in alternatives, and to test several options through practical cases. Finally they were assisted to focus on earning models that fit the business model.
These sessions were designed to be a part of the Cultural Entrepreneurship of the Province of Utrecht. The objective of the program was to motivate the province to stimulate cultural organisations to develop an entrepreneurial approach to their business.
